8BitDo Ultimate 2C – Black Myth: Wukong Controller Review.

The much-anticipated souls-like Black Myth: Wukong has just been released, and to celebrate, 8bitDo has teamed up with Game Science to release a special edition controller.

The Ultimate C model was chosen for this cooperation, and it has received a new coat of paint as well as some additional features, which we will discuss later.

So, you may be wondering, “Is this new controller really worth the hype?” Did 8BitDo provide any additional functionality?” Find out the answers to these questions and more in our comprehensive evaluation of the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C – Black Myth: Wukong controller.

In terms of look, the very sleek and all-black special version boasts two separate patterns printed on the controller’s sides. The patterns serve to differentiate its operation, with the wireless variant represented by a flame design and the wired model by Yaksha King-inspired markings.

A truly amusing element is that the controller’s front shell is only slightly opaque, allowing you to see the interior portions of the joysticks and the front of the controller’s internal casing. It creates a rather psychedelic appearance, especially since these features are only visible from certain angles.

The matte finish on the front is also aesthetically pleasant, and the materials utilized for both the front shell and the paint appear to be quite sturdy and scratch resistant. There is no need to be concerned about using your special edition controller because you are frightened it will be destroyed; this device can sustain regular use with no wear.

The Ultimate 2C Wukong edition, like most 8BitDo controllers, is designed with asymmetrical joysticks and ABXY buttons, similar to the Xbox layout. The excellent quality that 8BitDo is known for is on full display here, and this may really be their greatest controller in terms of specifications.

This unique edition is one of the few controllers created by 8BitDo that includes both hall effect joysticks and triggers, and let me tell you, there’s no going back once you’ve tried it. The controller’s hall effect joysticks are extremely precise and feel very smooth when manipulated, with the added virtue of being resistant to stick drift.

The controller’s shoulder buttons have a pleasant amount of resistance and provide a gratifying click when pressed, but the triggers have a nice amount of resistance and feel buttery smooth when held down. The hall effect triggers provide a simply outstanding tactile feel, and anyone who appreciates shooters will have a great time with these, as they are truly exceptional.

The Ultimate 2C Wukong edition, however, does not include its own dock. The lack of a charging station makes it a little more cumbersome to keep at your table, which is a real bummer. A decorated dock for this controller would be truly stunning.

It’s reasonable that not every controller can have its own dock, but it would be wonderful if it had contact points on the back to allow for wireless charging or docks purchased from other models.

I still hope that a docked version of this controller will be made in the future, as the Ultimate controller’s charging docks have become almost associated with the 8BitDo brand in my opinion, and their functionality is a great plus.

When it comes to connectivity, the wireless version of the Ultimate 2C supports both Bluetooth and 2.4G, thanks to the characteristic brick-styled USB receiver that 8BitDo offers with their wireless gadgets. It has a stunning 1000Hz polling rate on both 2.4G and Bluetooth connections and does not require any specific drivers or setup, resulting in a straightforward plug-and-play experience.

Because it is a Bluetooth device, the Ultimate 2C can connect to Android devices, and it works flawlessly right out of the box, enabling controller support for any game that supports it while also playing well with mapping applications.

The controller also supports custom button mapping without the need for software, making it simple to bind its additional buttons. The Ultimate 2C controller includes two additional buttons as extensions of the LB and RB shoulders, which may be fully modified. Personally, I prefer to link them to the home key, allowing me to use the right joystick as a mouse to navigate menus.

Overall, the 8BitDo Black Myth: Wukong Controller combines the high and durable quality of an 8BitDo product with the style of a stylish special edition. It has exactly the appropriate amount of customisation to go in with the Wukong motif without being tacky, and the color scheme is really appealing.

The incorporation of hall effect joysticks and triggers is truly game-changing, and we can only hope that they become the brand’s standard in the future. It would not be an exaggeration to claim that this could be one of 8BitDo’s best devices to date.

Despite being a limited edition, the Wukong controller is fairly reasonably priced at 24.99 and 34.99 USD for the wired and wireless models, respectively. Buying a device of this quality for less than other current-generation controllers is absurd, and 8BitDo continues to outperform themselves in both style and usefulness.

The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C – Black Myth: Wukong Controller is available through 8BitDo’s online store, as well as their official Amazon and AliExpress stores.
