Anarkade is a slow burner. As a result, it took me a while to grasp its fundamental concepts and easy gameplay. However, once it clicked, I couldn’t help but love its pixelated charms. Furthermore, it has a true old-school edge that reminded me of my childhood.
This arcade shooter was created by Pixelatom and distributed by Blowfish Studios. It also contains various platform components and stages that are produced procedurally. As a result, each playtime is unique, and this was fantastic. Unfortunately, the depth is restricted, and each short match follows a similar pattern. This was unfortunate because the creator could have included many interesting concepts. In its current state, it may be enjoyed casually, albeit the action does occasionally outstay its welcome.

Anarkade has no tale.
When madness and violence are prominent themes, a plot is unnecessary. Anarkade takes this to the next level by having no characters to empathize with and no backstory to contemplate. This was an unneeded flaw in my opinion, as there may have been rivalries between each protagonist and some enemies to deal with.
The lack of depth further adds to my thoughts on the casual experience. With nothing to strive for and no characters to root for or against, you slog on nonetheless. Now, this may appear to be a bad statement, but I don’t understand why a corny 80s-style good against evil perspective was not included.

Quick action and minimal tactics.
Anarkade focuses on quick, sharp arena battles that will push you hard. Each stage is placed against a different pixelated backdrop, and you must evaluate every barrier if you want to succeed. As each round progresses, you must collect crates to upgrade your weapons. You start with a knife and a pistol. However, you may upgrade it to a rocket launcher, shotgun, and much more.
Along with this, you can jump between platforms and bounce off of barriers. Furthermore, you can fall through gaps and appear through the roof. These tactical features were excellent since they provided depth to an otherwise shallow game. Furthermore, it was a unique way to end your friendship. As they aim, you can move like a ninja to evade their assaults. This funny element sparks several discussions and a high level of smugness.
Anarkade is beautifully pixelated.
If you’re looking for a modern title that will tax your GPU, this isn’t it. Anarkade is wonderfully pixelated, yet utterly simple. Each level has a distinct theme and some challenges to face and overcome. In addition, you can customise your pixelated hero. Though it doesn’t add much to the action, it was enjoyable nonetheless. The animation is rudimentary, as expected. However, this contributes to the old-school appeal.
The audio is an angry and energetic mix of tunes and sound effects. The high-energy soundtrack fades into the background while you try to defeat your opponents. Though I had expected it to be more memorable, it did not annoy me. When the battle heated up, I was too concentrated on evading my enemies and remaining alive.

Simple controls.
Mastering the controls is a simple task. You must move, jump, and slash with your knife. Every input is responsive, and navigating the world is a delight as a result. Though I would have preferred more character-specific combos or special moves, I like the basic gameplay.
Anarkade features both local and online multiplayer fights. In addition, you can play Deathmatch or a crate-based point system. Both are chaotic, and winning either tests your willpower. As a result, there is some replayability and longevity.
