Review for the RIG 600 PRO HS Acid Camo Headset

It’s been more than a year since RIG introduced their new 600 series of headsets to the world, providing the gaming market with some extremely lightweight but excellent gaming headsets. They are now taking that same range and elevating it to new heights, at least in terms of aesthetics, by collaborating with Wicked Cushions to create a distinct new look.

You are probably aware of RIG. It’s a brand that we’ve been using for several years, and we’ve enjoyed the benefits of their lightweight, very skeletal designs. Nacon is trying to expand the brand through new collaborations, and the latest offers are the result of a cooperation with Wicked Cushions. Frankly, the RIG 600 PRO HS Acid Camo Headset is a joy to use, even if it isn’t fully compatible with our Xbox lifestyle right out of the box.

RIG 600 PRO HS, Acid Camo

We’ve previously reviewed the Xbox version of the RIG 600 PRO, but now we’ve also had a chance to play with the PlayStation edition, the RIG 600 PRO HS. We were intrigued by how the Wicked Cushions integration came about, and even though we’re multi-format gamers who mostly play on PS5, we can still use the HS edition with the Xbox eco-system thanks to Game Pass and the power of the Cloud.

We won’t go into full review mode with this piece, primarily because, aside from some PlayStation box branding and the evident Wicked Cushions Acid Camo integration, we’re looking at the same headset we tested previously with the HX. That means you can be confident that purchasing the 600 PRO will provide you with a mid-range wireless gaming headset that is superb value for its sub-$100 pricing.

It comes basic with a lightweight and robust design, soft ear cups, and exceptional sound quality, which can be further customized with the 600 PRO Navigator App. The 600 PRO has a flip-to-mute mic, dual connectivity via USB dongle and Bluetooth for simultaneous usage with PC, console, and mobile devices, and a long battery life of up to 24 hours, if you believe RIG’s marketing.

In fact, based on our previous experience, we only thought that the ear cups on the 600 HX could have been slightly thicker and that the mic was a little fiddly to activate, but these minor flaws were outweighed by the headset’s overall performance and affordability. In a nutshell, if you want a durable and feature-rich wireless headset that won’t break the bank, look into the RIG 600 PRO line.

Serious stylings.

But perhaps you might also consider the RIG 600 PRO HS, especially now that it has been treated with Wicked Cushions. Out of the box, the difficulties with ear cup padding are mostly resolved, and the design cues are spot on.

We came to the HS with the same mindset that we did with the Dekoni Audio Elite Sheepskin pads for Audeze Maxwell. Similar views develop with this one, in that an improvement to the Wicked Cushions design is far from required. However, if you have the money or want to try RIG and the 600 series for the first time, this is certainly the best option; especially if you own a PlayStation 5.

The RIG 600 PRO HS looks fantastic with the new Wicked Cushions Acid Camo pattern. It deviates from the typical all-black headset by incorporating bright colors, yellows and greys, abstract motifs, and details. We really enjoy the acid yellow rings around the 40mm speaker internals and the hard plastic externals of the ear cups, but the entire thing screams out. Wicked Cushions has gone all out with new acid color strips on the plastic headband and ear cups, giving the look a very’modern-camo’ vibe. We’re not clear why someone wouldn’t warm to them.

However, the cups have undergone more than simply a cosmetic makeover. The HS Wicked Cushions variant, which ditches the HX’s material vibes, comes in WC PadZ shape, with dense memory foam lined with a unique sports fabric, all wrapped up in that distinctive camo-patterned over PU leather. RIG and Wicked Cushions boast that these will provide all-day comfort with a trendy edge, and we tend to agree. Granted, the RIG 600 is an easy-to-use headset in general, and its lightweight design lends itself to extended gaming sessions, but we believe the padding here is more comfortable than before. Not by much, but enough to deserve consideration.

A cracking headset

Of course, whether or not that is enough to convince you to buy the RIG 600 PRO HS Acid Camo is debatable. But with direct play through PlayStation and PC via a 2.4GHz USB-C adapter, as well as mobile via Bluetooth, which allows you to play Game Pass titles, we don’t see why you wouldn’t be interested in this headset. Add in the RIG 600 App (we’ve been using the Android version, but you can find an iOS version if you want) that allows you to customize the audio with equalizers and other features, and things get even more fascinating.

The new visual style will entice you to the RIG 600 PRO HS Acid Camo Headset, but underlying it all is a fantastic headset that is well worth your time. Regardless of your preferred gaming format.
