I’m not a big NBA 2K player. I’ve reviewed a few of these games before, and I’ve played basketball several times, so I’m familiar with how the game – and the rules – work. But if you want expert advise on the NBA and all of its nooks and corners, seek elsewhere.

If you’re looking for a review from someone who is interested in trying NBA 2K25 but feels scared, look no further. Just keep in mind that NBA 2K25 has so many options that it might be daunting, but behind it all is a very great sports sim game.

Shooting hoops with NBA 2K25

There are so many settings to pick from that it can seem overwhelming at first. But, if you’re new or haven’t played in a while, I’d recommend starting with Learn 2K, which has all of the tutorials and new skills to learn, from the basics to advanced modes. It’s incredibly simple to use and was extremely helpful to me in the beginning.

I began NBA 2K25 and stayed there for the majority of the review, playing MyCAREER mode, which I always seem to like. Here, you can choose your own path and player to begin your career, and it includes a variety of additional options. You get to design your own playstyle for the character and even scan your own face into it. Once in the game, you can either begin your NBA career with the club of your choice or go back in time to discover how you got there by recreating high school games. You also get a tale about your character, including their adventures and relationships with others. It is all extremely good.

When you play in the NBA, you have to deal with training, social media, interviews, and other things in addition to the game. I enjoy the career mode, which feels more exciting and spectacular than ever this year. You can also effortlessly transition into The City mode, which is an MMO with a large open area that has improved much since my last playthrough. Here, you can find daily and weekly challenges, meet others to play on city courts, and, of course, shop for pleasant items.

There are plenty of microtransactions here, such as battle passes. However, you are under no obligation to participate in any of this. Of course, the temptation exists, which might be hard for younger gamers.

Lots of modes and gameplay options

The gameplay in NBA 2K25 has been improved and enhanced for the latest version. For these uninformed eyes, it feels like playing basketball. New dribbling mechanics enhance a physics system based on real video, among other technical improvements. actual-life jump shots, hoops, and celebrations have all been stolen from the actual world. There are now two distinct shooting options, including the one from last year where you had to enter the ‘green’ bar, which some people disliked. But now there’s a much easier and more forgiving shooting mode, which is ideal for me. Whatever the case may be, NBA 2K25 is an excellent game, both entertaining and suspenseful throughout.

The other modes in the setup include the amazing NBA Eras mode, which allows you to play games from the past 40 years or so. Jordan, Bird, and Kobe show various visual styles for each age. NBA 2K offers MyTEAM, the EA FC Ultimate Team, which allows players to build their own fantasy teams from packs. However, this should be approached with caution.

The WNBA is also featured here, in career mode. Playing online and watching 2K TV, which is an incredible source of information, are also choices.

NBA 2K25 is visually amazing, with fantastic stadiums and lifelike renderings of all the courts available. The player models, lighting, and overall visual menu and design are all amazing. In between timeouts and quarters, there are performances on the court, including cheerleaders, acrobatics, and even dance cams in the audience. My favorite moment was emerging as a player from the tunnel into a crowded stadium. It’s amazing every time.

Absolutely amazing.

The audio quality is excellent, from the energetic and strong music to the squeak and thump of each on-court play. But the roar from the people and stadium knocks your socks off every time you play. On top of that, there’s a commentary crew and a halftime show in the studio that’s both amusing and authentic.

Let it be known that I am not an NBA 2K specialist. I am not a huge fan of the NBA and all of its ups and downs. If you want a lengthy assessment from someone in that category, you should seek elsewhere. But I’m a gamer, and NBA 2K25 appears to have improved in terms of gameplay and modes over prior versions. The look, action, and shear quantity of options available make NBA 2K25 an incredible package; a superb sports game. Yes, the specter of microtransactions still haunts the site, but if you close your eyes and ignore it, you’ll have a fantastic time.
